Car Club History

In the spring of 1965, Harold Soukup came up with the idea of forming a car club.  With that idea in mind, Harold discussed this many times and held the first meeting in his home with Charter Members Eddie Hancock, John Soukup, Carl Soukup, Leonard Burtleson and George Moyer present.  They discussed at this meeting that their objective would be to own and enjoy antique cars.  Harold Soukup was selected as President with Eddie Hancock as Vice President.  It was decided that the first Friday of the month at 8:00PM would be when the club would meet.  The meeting at Harold's home started out around the dinning room table until they ran out of room and had to start meeting at different locations.

In the Fall of that same year, Harold talked the car club members into having a swap meet.  The swap meet was to be held on the fourth Sunday of September.  The first year Harold and Leona were in charge of the swap meet.  It was held at the Fremont Mall Parking lot and there were 30 dealers.  After that John and Jane Soukup were in charge of the swap meet for the next twenty years until Denny Westerguard took charge.

The swap meet in currently being held at Christensen Field.

If you are interested in joining the Fremont Antique Car Club, or have any questions about the club, contact us or attend a meeting. We would be happy to talk to you. Even if you don't own an antique or classic car, you can still join and be part of a classic club.
